AIHA Releases White Paper on OSHA’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program

At the request of OSHA, the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) released a white paper concerning OSHA’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (I2P2), a potential new rule that would require employers to find and fix hazards in their workplaces.

The AIHA paper stresses that an I2P2 standard should:

  • Be broad in scope and “have the widest industry and employer coverage that the rulemaking process can tolerate;”

  • Not exempt workplaces based on size or low injury rates;

  • Cover contract/leased labor and multi-employer worksites;

  • Be aware of potential documentation burdens on small employers;

  • Not make exemptions based on employer-generated data;

  • Consider exemptions for VPP Star workplaces.

#imu My new favorite Twitter Reader Lazyscope has been updated cc. @lazys

Lazyscope is a fabulous Twitter reader. It's like Flipboard for the desktop!

Amplify’d from lazyscope.tumblr.com
Update 1: Menu

The menu is now larger and easier to navigate. Previous versions had a very small menu which was far from easy to use. In the new version, simply click on your profile image at the top left corner to open up a menu, where you can access all your lists and subscribed blogs.

Update 2: DM and @ Mention notification
Update 3: Memory & CPU related bugs fixed

There used to be some memory and cpu issues. Sometimes Lazyscope crashed after using it for a while. Sometimes you would see a screen of blank white space. Sometimes it would eat up all your memory and cpu usage if you keep it open for a long time. We’ve fixed most of them and they shouldn’t happen anymore. If you see any of this happen again, let us know by submitting to feedback (There is a feedback button at the top right corner of Lazyscope app which says “Feedback please!”).

Update 4: Login issue fixed
Update 5+: Many more bugs fixedRead more at lazyscope.tumblr.com

#safety #nathan_JHA Simple Article Job Hazard Analysis a mis-understood safety concept - http://ow.ly/3eoIa

Job Hazard Analysis is one of the most mis-understood safety process. Check out the site, myjobhazardanalysis, http://ow.ly/3eoIa, to see how I am trying to change this concept

Common Sense Approach to the Job Hazard Analysis

A hazard can be anything that has the potential to cause injury or illness if left uncontrolled. The job hazard analysis is used to identify these hazards before the injury or illness occurs. To do this, the relationship between the employee, the tools or equipment, the work to be accomplished and the work environment is examined. This allows for identification of what the hazards are and then you can decide on the steps to remove the hazards. (WCxKit)

A job hazard
analysis should begin with a review of the workplaces records for accidents and injuries. If you are not already receiving a monthly loss run from your insurance carrier, ask your broker to obtain one for you. This will provide you with information on the nature and type of injuries that have occurred in your workplace. The known hazards can easily be identified in this manner and this will show you where the existing methods of hazard prevention are not working.

#imu #tc10 A great article "Does Common Sense Have a Mathematical Formula?"

We sometimes forget that there is plane old common sense that we have to use sometimes. It is not technical in nature, but we sometimes forget that little voice in our head that singles a go no/go.

Enjoy.

#imu #tc10 Great post Building backlinks using Squidoo and Hubpage to get creditable links

This is a great method to get back links to your site. I use these sites and it really works. Squidoo and Hubpage are great sites.

When building backlinks to a website, you have to keep in mind that the more unique and ethical you keep it, the better it is. One good way to get backlinks to your website is to use Squidoo or HubPages. These are revenue sharing sites that let you write your own information articles and share them with your specified audience. The greatest thing about these sites is that you are allowed to use anchor text, which makes it even better for your link building strategy. Don’t spoil things and use these sites for the wrong reasons;use them to get quality backlinks. Search engines will view your backlinks as credible since they came from Squidoo and Hubpages, which have a lot of authority. What this really means is that you can have pages on Squidoo and HubPages that rank well, plus help your website to rank well for whatever keyword that you choose.

LinkedIn Adds User Permissions to Groups

linkedin new group moderation toolsLinkedIn has increased group administrators’ ability to weed out spam by adding a user permission tool. The new tool allows the administrator of the group to establish guidelines for how users are able to post within the group as a whole. In September, LinkedIn added the promotions tab which was to encourage users to avoid posting non discussion items in the discussions and move them over to the promotions tab. The promotions tab seemed to only have encouraged sales pitches and quickly became an under utilized feature as who wants to read sales pitch after sales pitch?

#imu If you are a safety professional this will of an interest to you.

In my opinion, OSHA is trying to mandate too many things. How are they going to enforce all of the things they are suppose too. Many companies are getting cited with big fines associated with the citations. I call this the new TAX. What better way of getting money in the backdoor way. This is my 2 cents worth.

Anyone want to make a comments?

OSHA boss: “Mandatory safety and health programs can't come soon enough” (10/19)

“Mandatory safety and health programs can't come soon enough. In recent months we have witnessed a series of intolerable workplace tragedies: Seven workers were killed in a refinery fire in Anacortes, Washington; 29 coal miners perished in the Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia; 11 more workers were lost in the Deepwater Horizon explosion off the coast of Louisiana; and when the Kleen Energy power plant construction site in Connecticut blew up on Super Bowl Sunday, six more workers were killed.

“And we know that safety and health programs fail if workers aren't at the table as full participants. I think it was Charlie Richardson who said it best yesterday – ‘If you are not at the table, you're on the menu.’
